Happily the Ayuntamiento had helpfully not allowed us to register as holiday let without a very expensive AFO as the original cedula did not bear any ressemblance to the present house (although the escritura is correct!). We have fixed that but we had already decided when we found out about the tax ...

Great tax break for long term rental
It seems to be a little known fact (and from what I can see a large number of Gestors do not see fit to point it out to owners) that if you are resident in Spain and you rent out a property long term you get 60% of the rental income tax free. That is in addition to the 3% of the catastral value of t...

Scam Investor?
Not strictly scam emails but I think a scam nonetheless. Phone call from Swiss number from chap allegedly looking to purhase property for investor 'In Almeria'. Told him Las Tortugas not for sale but we have another house which is. Conversation went on a bit with him quizzing me about whether the pr...

Looking for somewhere
Hopefully someone can help our family find somewhere for summer holidays. Daughter is trying to avoid the Homeaway/Trip Advisor lot so would appreciate if someone can point us towards good French sites which are independent. Even better, has anyone got something themselves or that they can recommend...

My experience is that French banks are singularly unhelpful when it comes to overseas transactions even in euros. Some seem to insist on customers visiting their branch to do it even if they use internet banking. You're right there Pepsipuss, if I want to arrange (from the UK) a new bank transfer f...

Some seem to insist on customers visiting their branch to do it even if they use internet banking. Acceping payment in euros for a property in Europe is not only good for owners but perh...

I have never had prices in anything other than euros since the introduction of the euro. I live in Spain and all my expenses are in Spain. It's bad enough that our pensions are worth so much less than a year ago without losing out on rental exchange rates. We offer the opportunity for UK guests to p...

I haven't spent a lot of time on the forum recently and in any event rarely look at owner-to-owner so I only picked this up from a reference elsewhere. Delighted that you have got it off the ground Nigel and wish you lots of luck - I will be listing as we have recently put our decision to sell on ho...

Commission is better for me as it wasn't worth doing subscribtion anymore. I have noted when you contract it from the portal it says the commission is 10%. Seems to contradict the 8%. Does it say who pays it? Can't load any big pages this weekend as my internet connection has gone almost completely...

@Costa Brava. Yes I thought so too.... but nowhere does it say who pays the 8% if I choose to go this way after subscription expires. All I know is that if I don't, the people who have recently joined and are on commission will get listed above my Classic promotion with many 5* reviews. That does no...

Rentalia going over to the dark side
I have just received a communication from Rentalia telling me about their wonderful new system which means that I will get more business if I choose to go down a commission route. Carefully worded to suggest that it is only going to cost me €1 per booking plus 2% of the deposit for processing the cr...

I don't think you mean what you've written pepsipuss do you? Do you? I can't quite get the grammar right but I think you mean the opposite to what it actually says. Thank you Nemo!  Should have gone to Specsavers before trying to do this sort of thing on phone!! For the re...
