As a completely different product, which couldn't do a complex shopping website, but seems perfect for the kind of holiday home website we typically put together. Xara Web Designer (www.xara.com) is a completely wysiwyg system where you actually draw things and never ever touch html. It's so differe...

The only issue I couldn't replicate was the 'things to do' problem. My fault for not being clear. I think in general I meant that the navigation wasn't entirely clear, you couldn't always get to where you want to be from any page, and I got the distinct impression sometimes that there was a particu...

I'd like to echo the comments here. Very clean, well designed website. Lovely photos. Comments are small, but I sense you are striving for perfection: (I'm using Firefox) On the availability calendar, (someone has mentioned this already) where the live price floats, there is another symbol before th...

Colours

One of the really useful comments from the first time I posted my website here was that my colour scheme didn't really reflect a beach holiday. Well I still wanted something that looked a bit contemporary, so I used this site which gives great palettes. I just searched for 'beach' (choose Browse und...

but I didnt find the popular virtual tour or video tour. I guess I was trying to do the tour via still photographs, on the layout page. That way I can add things as I go along (still more to do) and improve them as I get better photos. If you could just get the sun to shine it would look perfect! T...

Thanks for noticing that! Funny how can miss something - I just haven't ever clicked an arrow because I _know_ that they don't do anything! I just need to select all those arrows and unset the onclick functionality. I use a program called Xara Web Designer: http://www.xara.com/uk/products/webdesigne...

Updated site

Hi - I have updated my website this year (although I am still gradually adding more photos to the layout area). I think I've incorporated most of the excellent comments I got here: http://www.laymyhat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6818 More comments appreciated: http://www.pearlcottage.co.uk Regards Lee

Hi everyone Some excellent advice. My property definitely has that week already marked as booked - it's 59356 on holidaylettings. I am just about to transfer some money to the first group (the one who had only paid the deposit), to cover the difference to another available place to stay. It has been...

Oh my god! I've double booked!!!

I'd appreciate your thoughts (and probably plenty of "you idiot", "you should be more organised" because I definitely deserve it). I agreed to let out my cottage for the coming half term weekend very early in the summer. All communication was done via email and the guests paid de...

I have had a thought about my aircon, although it's my first season and I've no idea how the costs'll turn out anyway. I have a box at home which you connect your your electricity supply, and then gives you a live reading of your energy usage. In kWh as well as £. I thought I might install one at my...

I never managed to get through in any case, so I'm glad for the guidance here that it wasn't the most important thing. Although having been down the the cottage at the weekend before summer bookings start and I miss my chance, I discovered why - the cleaner had helpfully unplugged the phone and put ...

When we flew out to France the week before last with our twin boys, who are 18 months old, we had to sit on different rows. Children under than 2 don't get their own seat - they sit on your lap. The helpful steward explained that the reason for not sitting on the same row was that there are 4 oxygen...

Calling guests to check all is okay

Hello When I looked through the guide for star rankings from VisitBritain, I saw this bit about getting a call to make sure everything is okay. I think this seems like a good idea, I just wondered: 1. Does anybody else do that? 2. When do you call? I don't want to call too early in the morning so as...

I think it was a very good job that I came here for comments. Mostly for the great feedback. But partly because I checked the site out again, and noticed that all my old photos were still there. Looks like it was an issue with file extensions... So the third bedroom is meant to look like this: http:...

Thanks everyone. Some more good stuff. And some stuff I'd like to follow up on. Some questions though are now clearly more about what we're doing rather than the website per se. Is it bad etiquette on this forum just to carry on the discussion in this thread, or should I start new topics in the righ...
