You can be a member of the BF Property Owners club ( I think it is now the Frequent Travelers club) even if you live in France.
This enables our guests to get a 10% discount on their crossing and for each one who books we get £10 to be used against either our membership fee or a crossing (max £100).

We had one potential guest who asked if the footpaths through the nearby forest were protected against bulls and sheepdogs. :? :?

Last year we had an enquiry where we spent a lot of time emailing and speaking to them on the telephone about all sorts of questions. When they booked I was really worried about them coming as we were quite new to the rental world (and still are compared with many of you) and I envisaged all sorts o...

That's really good and it does build the confidence up! :D We think it's important to stay there ourselves whenever possible if only to use everything (washing machine, dishwasher etc.) to make sure it's all working.

I have been getting emails every few days from this company and they are all worded as if we have already asked to list! I was a bit worried at first.
I have now replied asking them to stop sending messages but I don't hold out much hope that they will :(

I always supply toilet rolls - if only to stop poeple buying thick stuff which would block the pipes to the septic tank! Also, I look at the time they are arriving and how (car or plane), day they are arriving etc. Then I leave things which are appropriate in addition to the few little treats...

Quickest return booking?

We had guests leave our cottage on Tuesday and have had an email this morning to book the same 10 days for next year!
I am amazed! :o

Well, the guests who prompted me to start this thread have departed leaving behind a super hand made 'Thank you' card, lovely comments in the visitors book and a spotless cottage! :D :D
Although I always worry about what people think the first visitors of the season are always the worst!

Thanks everyone I know now I'm not alone! Yes, we do care about our guests. People often only get one holiday in the year and we want to make sure it's a good one. The guests are in and seem happy - now I'll join Richard51 and start worrying about what I'll find when they leave  Thanks for your...

Does anyone else always worry?

Oh no! The nerves have set in again. It's so daft! This is our third year of renting our cottage but the first guests of the season are arriving tomorrow and I am always SO nervous at the beginning of the season. Perhaps they won't like it? I have spent all weekend there cleaning and preparing so I ...

We have freesat TV in the gite and several guests with children have said that it was a great thing to have available. Here in Brittany the weather is not always good  !! There is also a DVD player and my dad collects all the free DVD's from his paper in UK and so we have a good library of fi...

We rented a gite for a break at the end of our letting period 18 months ago which was advertised as no pets. When I contacted the owners they kindly allowed us to take our African Grey Parrot with us!

This is our third year of renting and we put up our prices this year having not done so for year 2. I was thinking of offering these early bookings (if we get them) this years prices. I'm not sure we will increase prices next year anyway but it might act as an incentive.

'Provisional' reservations

We have had a couple of guests who wanted weeks for which we had already reserved pending deposits. When I emailed to confirm that the deposits had been received they both said they were interested in 2011 and would book earlier next time. I was thinking about offering a 'Provisional Reservat...
