Hi, I was slowly moving towards the acceptance of reviews.... And then TA rears it's ugly head again. The argument that it is only a small percentage of harmfull reviews etc does not offer any solace if you are the victim...or do we just adopt the viewpoint that 'thank God it wasn't me' and accept. ...

Hi Riley, it really can be daunting, surrounded by so many experienced people and I think most will sympathise. What I can say is that all the book learning, or the well meaning opinions of ‘friends’ are no comparison for what is probably the 100 years worth of experience already expressed here. The...

Hi Pepsipuss I do not actually think that there is revenue to be lost....or a need for price increases. If the 'current' £200 was reduced by as much as 40% for an apartment, I for one would list.....probably. Net result would be £240 revenue, given that now two owners can afford to list. Another hop...

Same fee does NOT fit all
How I wish a predominant listing site could address this costing issue…. in a fair manner. Assume a listing fee of £200 to include 20 photographs as the norm. In assessing the viability as covering it’s cost, under one week’s booking of your £1000 per week villa (netting £300) is required. Now look ...

On the smile side…this still gets me. We had a text from four ‘mature’ lady guests on a man free holiday. They could not flush the toilet. Now, accepting that push button dual flush is not that well known in the UK, wife duly texts back to explain about pushing the button on the cistern lid. Nothing...

Many years ago my businesses were plagued by faxes (remember them?) from a crowd called 192.com They were desperately trying to create a database of every contact imagineable. Here we are ten years later......in it's simplest form, you can go to their website, enter postcode and will give name regis...

Hi Donafe In responding to some of your points I think it fair to recognise that you are....one of the free listing sites. I in fact often fall on the side of free sites in asking for respect of their investment and mutual input from those listing. to respond; 1. by it's very nature finances are ava...

Hi Cordoba, Just to play devils advocate here, let me throw in a few questions for consideration by all.......and about free sites in general. As many free listing sites as possible may increase your profile…but in a good way? Is there a fear that prospective guests trawling free sites might get a h...

Hi Star, the reference was to sites that are fighting hard to become established against the financial and time constraints. Bending the rules a bit here, but holiday let is a good example. Innevitably hr/hl are well run...for themselves...... and a partial monopoly is no good thing.......but it's a...

Hi, my thoughts…… If a listing site trades and portrays itself as ‘direct from owner’ I feel it only ethical and moral that IT SHOULD BE SUCH…. and efforts are made to ensure only direct listings are accepted. If you are going to list both, it is not a problem….just do not claim otherwise. On that s...

Hi Liasc It is not even availability calendars...that is a seperate debate. I so often look at free sites and check a listing to find it shows a 'last updated' date of two years ago..... As a potential guest I might even draw an unflattering conclusion about the owner or property, let alone the detr...

Hi, I fully respect every property or website owners right to do exactly as they wish, but I do have some opinions (unless convinced otherwise here) on free listings and effectiveness. If a free site is to work its aim must be to become a paid for site asap, (minimal fee rising with results) otherwi...

As I have mentioned recently in another thread, few of our guests seem not to want internet (possibly due to location and climate...it's hot)…..but we do, by default, have a throttle on over use and downloading. Landlines are like gold dust here and our access is by 3g dongle. Any over use is automa...

We are all so different…..owners and also our guests
Just to emphasise how properties and their guests can differ so much for absolutely no apparent reason, geographically or otherwise, I have had more feedback in the past five weeks than years previously (well almost!) Our guests are predominantly 50 plus and quietish…..like ourselves. To my mind int...
