Thank you all, much appreciated. To be clear, I'm not asking for a substantial discount that is going to impoverish an owner. I am in exactly the same situation with my property--I'm not going to rent it out for the August mortgage payment, when my whole annual season is only 8-10 weeks! However in ...

Thanks costabravarent - that's exactly what I was trying to suss out, really helpful. I've got some mates locally and will see if maybe they will do some searching with local agents for us. Roxytoo that's helpful as well, much appreciated. I think we are going to stay a bit closer to Barcelona airpo...

Thanks for the suggestions guys - I'm not having any problems finding spanish holiday rental sites so I'm all good with those. :D It's not problems per se, I just wondered if anyone knows of agents or listings sites that cater more to longer term rentals rather than weekly. I see longer term furnish...

mid-length rentals - where to find?

Hi all We are looking for a villa or large apartment to rent for a longer period - say, 6 weeks - next summer. We are thinking about Sitges but are flexible. I'm having a slightly difficult time finding places like these -- any thoughts on where to look or how to get in touch with people who might b...

South of France for Cornwall

For the first time this year some family are coming over from North America and would like to stay in the UK as opposed to venturing further afield. Having never been to Cornwall - it is high on my list. We'd be happy to swap, on a flexible date basis, a week at our house in the Languedoc for a plac...

Sorry Brendan - been away from the forum for a while so missed your posting.

We are still deciding about whether we are coming at Easter but would be happy to swap with you at some point if we can make it work. I've never been down your way and would like to go for a visit!

Ah, quite right you are KathyG ! :D I should have double-checked the manual. "Switching off the detector is achieved by entering the secret code followed by the keys * 9 9. When pressing the last 9 key, no audible beep can be heard because the system has shut down. Warning! The use who deactiva...

Yes it can get a bit blustery. :D Based on my understanding of the law, those don't really exist. The first is covered under the legal requirements for the alarms (they must reset themselves, I believe). The second--well, the way we do it is to take the batteries out, as was previously mentioned. Ta...

Sorry LV- should have been more clear! I'm only in my second year, but I'm basically only getting 12-14 weeks per year: early June through to mid September. That's fine with me, as it's my holiday home, and I just want it to partially earn it's keep. Also much earlier or later than that and I have t...

Mols we're up in the hills as you know... but when we started up the pool two weeks ago we had a massive gust of wind in the first few hours--alarm went off like a shot. We're with the aqualarm 2 also. I have found the english manual online too if anyone else needs it. I can confirm that it resets i...

Just a note about Sawdays and my experience with them. After a dear friend of mine told me about them, I "applied" and got the initial email response back that they were pleased to tell me that I could pay to be reviewed. They then announced that it 800 euros a year for the listing. I comp...

Thanks for your stats too, Wallypott! looks like you're not doing too badly, though the drain thing does make me nervous. Surely people aren't flushing these things at home, or they'd have the same problems? I can't understand why people think someone else's house or business is somehow magical and ...

After our first season...

Well a few thoughts after our first season. (Well, almost the end of the season, as we have two more sets of guests coming--one when we leave on Saturday and one in October.) Our first guests of the season were a nightmare. The pool broke and needed servicing; she swore there was a swarm of flying a...

We used a brokerage outfit in London called IPF, and they do mortgages from the country of origin (in our case France, denominated in Euro). They were brilliant and the rates were good. We paid a small fee but again the service was great.
