Re: More guest than booked

I agree with the comments from Newtimber and others about 'spying' on guests. We live a few hundred yards from our holiday let and apart from putting the dustbins out for collection I make a conscious effort to avoid walking past the holiday let when we have guests, so that we are not seeing to be ...

Re: Simply Owners

My enquiries and bookings for my 3 UK properties via Simply Owners have continued to increase in a modest way which now definitely make them a useful part of my advertising mix. I think that a small but significant number of potential guests look at some of the listings on the bigger commissioned ba...

Actually I've had a property with SO for a few years now and though for the first 2-3 years things were very quiet I have noticed an increasing trickle of enquiries/bookings through them so I would give a cautious endorsement to them as I think more savvy guests are now beginning to look beyond HA, ...

Our policy is through Argenta (bought via their agents Simpson & Parsons). This particular policy which has a specific 'notifiable disease' clause is one of the selected policies the judges are looking at in the current test case the FCA have taken forward. Just wondered if any other owners on h...

Can anyone tell me what the benefits are of paying a subscription to Homeaway of £249 plus VAT given that they've now suspended early payments? Is there something I'm missing? Just been asked for this and as I've been disgusted with their very poor handling of the crisis which has only contributed t...

Yes, I received an email notification of a payment coming to me in respect of a cancelled Easter weekend booking. The payment notification is in dollars and from what I can tell is 25% of the 50% I would have received under my normal cancellation policy.

Preempting refund enquiries by proactively sending a lettter

As I've had several guests cancelling and/or looking for refunds I wanted to see what other UK owners feel about sending out a letter now to the guests who have already paid in full for their holidays. I've been drafting something along the lines of the following and would welcome any comments/sugge...

Information Commissioner's Office

We have received a notification from the I.C.O by letter asking us to register with them at a cost of £40-£60 per year. Have checked their website and doesn't appear to be a scam. The letter says 'If you hold customers' names, addresses or phone numbers on computer, you're processing personal inform...

I've had the same experience as Sunbeam and it's extremely annoying. Be aware that if you edit a quote for instance to add a charge for a dog or something like that the payment terms default to the balance being due 2 weeks before the holiday instead of what you may have set up and you have to remem...

I raised the whole topic of damage deposits on HL/TA in the thread ‘Trip Advisor Damage Deposit Issue’. The whole situation is very confusing/misleading particularly if you were under the impression as a host that HL/TA hold a security deposit for you (they don’t even though they record it in the da...

Trip Advisor Damage Deposit Issue

Not sure if anyone else is aware or affected by this particular issue but thought I should highlight it. I was pretty much forced to move over to a commission system with them (having previously been on subscription) about a year ago so this may just affect commission listings. Any owners who normal...

Moth/KAB-USA - I was interested by your comments as I was vigorously pursued by TA's representative about 6 months ago with calls and emails as they wanted me to change from subscription to commission and they warned me that if I didn't do this my properties would be on the bottom of any searches an...

Interested to see Ben's comments about the benefits of The TA/HL subscription but I wondered if you are aware that from the end of January if you accept online bookings through them you will no longer receive immediate payment - from that point on they will be holding on to any money they receive on...

TA/HL Subscription Owners Alert!

I have 3 houses on subscription with TA/HL and received a slightly vague email from them announcing some changes the other day and informing me that when the first one comes up for renewal at the end of January I would still have the option of being on subscription but at the higher cost of £599 plu...
