As you know google prefer smoke and mirrors to transparency, so anything is speculation - but i follow these google updates very closely and the many examples I've looked at, from forums etc and also including a hobby site of my own that was hit by penguin, have a poor link profile, due to any or al...

If you think you are affected by panda see this story about how panda has made its mark in India... Matt Cutts to address Indians ps if penguin has affected your sites the first places to look are (1) interlinking between your own sites and (2) link exchanges (3) excessive article and directory subm...

Ginelli - one useful tip is to write different text for each company you list with. I just searched a sentence from your OD listing and see the same text has been used on OD, HL and several other sites. This devalues your ads and stops you getting full value for money. It is very unlikely that googl...

I like NorthoftheDordogne which is currently a free site but from whom I have had enquiries and a booking this year. Also Francethisway. Both excellent choices Judy (and both free) :D francethisway has mixed results - some regions and properties do very well, others much less so, for reasons I can'...

rental sites and google penguin update

Some of you may not be aware that google had another of their major ranking 'updates' on the 25 april - the so-called 'penguin' update. Lots of sites had their search engine rankings changed substantially as a result. Anyone about to spend big money on advertising a rental property is well advised t...

There is a tiny switch on one side that can turn this on and off (according to your settings - the same switch can also do something else if your settings are different.)

Congratulations on getting your site released, it looks very professional and I'll steal a few ideas in due course! I'll share a few thoughts since it's a joomla site... It seems likely to me that if you use adwords then colour schemes don't need to be a matter of contention or disagreement , it's j...

I use all three, joomla, wordpress and html. Overall I would vote for joomla because WP sites often look immediately like WP sites (same for joomla to some extent, but less so) and because I find it has more flexible module positions than the widget positions in wordpress but I'm sure if I checked o...

I didn't see the program but had been wondering why our Dordogne site had several thousand extra visitors last monday - tuesday.

Presumably it was due to the program so I guess it must have created a good impression of the region with people watching rather than putting people off visiting.

I'm thinking a present needs to be something the person wouldn't just buy for themselves - a touch of luxury... ...and I think no one has mentioned my absolute favourite: a high quality easy to use pump. Remember trying to blow up tyres with an 'old fashioned' pump? It's no fun. I use this one and c...

More or less relevant to how chromebooks work was a good quote in Time magazine this week: The best thing about cloud computing is that word: cloud. Telling consumers their data is in the cloud is like telling a kid his dog has gone to doggie heaven. There is no doggie heaven, and your data isn't in...

I have the curious impression that the person describing the 'top 5' destinations hasn't actually visited them...no mention of beaches, port villages and cycling for Ile de Ré; talking of the 'medieval flavour of St Jean de Luz' or the Luberon covering three mountain ranges'; and then including Sain...

We have only used our own sites for a few years now, and usually get pretty well booked up, as much as we want to be - but I am pretty sure we get booked later than we would if we were also on big listing sites, so it does involve a bit of holding your nerve while you see other properties get booked...

Users that clicked on your ad don't have javascript enabled Surely if someone had javascript disabled they wouldn't even see the ads - so can't possibly click on them...? I'm wondering what happens if someone clicks on an ad but then uses the back arrow before a page has finished loading - analytic...

Hi Katie,

i notice you use www. in your signature but not on the site itself - it's better to choose one and stick with it (i think you can change it in 'general settings' if necessary).

Cheers
