We are in Tier 2. We have been notified by our local council (Wiltshire) that we are eligible for the Local Restrictions (Open) Grant and the grant for the first 2 weeks of December has been paid automatically without us having to do anything. The regional variations in how to apply for these grants...

I scan all of my receipts, and discard the original. I write a numerical reference on the receipt before scanning it, and this reference is entered onto my spreadsheet expense listing. As long as you have a digital version of the receipt, HMRC do not require you to keep the original. Indeed, till re...

National Accessible Scheme
If you are considering a grading from Visit England - have a look at their National Accessible Scheme. There is very detailed guidance on the requirements for different levels of accessible access.

White Company
I use White Company products which are gorgeous - from Pacific Direct as the White Company do not sell hotel toiletries directly. Would highly recommend.

Re: changing tax regime
I am assuming that this includes holiday lets, but could be wrong on that. The example calculation at the bottom of the page makes interesting reading! regards BS It doesn't include those properties which meet the criteria for furnished holiday lettings - see the first para of this link https://www...

I provide a mid-stay clean, towel and linen change for all stays of more than 7 nights. I have certainly never had a guest refuse this. When the guest arrives, I let them know which day the cleaner will be coming, and ask if there is a convenient time (as it's easier if they are out when she comes!)...

Yes, I'm very happy not to do it two nights running. It was for 4 children all aged 5 and under, and she could not guarantee they would be in bed! Too much of an unknown quantity for me to want to endure any problems until gone midnight. I like my sleep. I gasped in horror when I saw that it was fo...

I have four young children (4, 6, 8 and 10) and pay £6.50 per hour to our local childminder to babysit. This is around the going rate in my part of the Cotswolds. Agencies usually charge more (around £8 per hour sometimes with a booking fee on top) and if I were on holiday, I'd expect to pay £8-£10 ...

Roller irons - any recommendations?
After my thread the other day about nightmare Egyptian cotton linen from King of Cotton, I've decided to replace all of my linen and also purchase a roller iron so that I can take the ironing back "in house". It just takes too long with my normal steam generator iron. We only have two cott...
