So true Jensen. I think we did it the reverse way by coming out here in my 30's and returning to Blighty for 'retirement'. We just miss culture, history, live music, theatre, the ability to travel on easy flights at good prices. Island life can be restrictive. I'm sure we'll embrace the weather.......

I know that this is the France thread....but it's interesting that you've mentioned Yorkshire as we're hoping to move there (or Lancashire) from Ibiza :D After 20+ years we want a different life....and sunshine is way overated  Mousie x Wow ! That's some change but I can understand why . My Au...

The best advice I can give you is to choose your location very carefully. France can be a very lonely place in winter, the French are very family orientated so it doesn't matter how well you know your neighbours or get on with them they will be tied up with their family a lot of the time. I am also...

After reading all those books I would love to know their and your over all opinion ?? Thanks for the suggestions. If I had to sum up what I've gleaned from my reading to date I would say... the more you put in the better life becomes; get to know and embrace your neighbours; budget properly for any...

Re: Where is the French property market heading?
More specifically, where is the market in old, stone houses typically loved by the British yet disdained by the French going? Some online estate agents are talking up the pre-Brexit ‘rush’, suggesting there has never been a better time to sell as Brits flock to France to buy a home and establish re...

Not forming another post for your blog are you? My thoughts exactly: sorry to sound cynical, but we're on this forum to give genuine advice to each other, not to provide fodder for bloggers. It appears from your posts/blog that you're very early on in the process and perhaps are thinking that by dr...

We've just sold a couple of vehicles. Re-registering used to be done at the Prefecture with a fistful of paperwork but it now has to be done on line. Most people seem to be now opting to get their garagiste to do it for them. I highly recomend that you get a garage to do it ! It might cost you but ...

Take it you weren't here in 1992 ? When they did have the staff at the prefectures and normaly you did'nt need a cds but France was the only country in Europe that kept it on for years ! Well I was and it was hell so god knows what it will be like now ! Yep, got our first CdS in 1991, even had to h...

As the Brexit vote happened over 2 years ago anyone wanting a CdS has had plenty of time to request one. Brexit isn't France's fault, why should Prefectures have to find extra staff to deal with a one-off rush of Brits trying to establish a right to stay here? Very Defensive ???????? Take it you we...

Yes, you are in the same situation as we are I think. So, you are sure that if I apply for classification, which costs around €150 and lasts for 5 years, it would only benefit me if I paid income tax, but has no effect on CSG? That seems to make it even more unfair to the likes of us. Exactly :( I ...
