Agreed Marcus, Page Rank is not really important. Too many people focus on it unnecessarily. Surely it's about the traffic. If you want to know how Google sees your site, load Webmaster tools - will show you where you rank for terms, over time and in which countries, as well as your incoming links. ...

Content and the way it is displayed on a website has been a minefield in the past, hence standards (http://www.w3.org/). It's not just about disabled people, but basically the premise is splitting style from content. ie. a website with content that then has style applied to it from style sheets (CSS...

On the smaller scale this is not an issue you say but moving forward potentially so as standards become, well, standard. If you are offering your villa to people, arguably that includes disabled people and you wouldn't (and can't) discriminate. The same applies to your website. There have been high ...

Normandy Cow, If you do decide to redirect your old site to your wordpress blog, which I don't think is the best idea (see below) make sure you set 301 redirect pages up. This isn't as hard as it sounds. That said, one of the biggest problems you have with your existing website is that it is in fram...

The ones I have come across are terrible. Agreement on the four basics of on page differentiation are relatively new in documentation (as in a couple of years max) and a lot of the CMS systems haven't caught up. I have had terrible trouble for a client using Joomla recently and we have spent more mo...

Mouse - I agree and I guess the location of your property and how OL or HL sit within the search engines for any relevant keywords should play a part in strategy. I must admit, I haven't tried the offer tools yet but I think now, with your feedback... I might give them a go. Thanks for feedback guys...

I'd be interested on peoples thoughts between owners direct and holidaylettings? I went on Owners Direct because someone recommended it, but when I did searches for 'pervolia' and 'larnaca', the location of my place, holidaylettings was consistently higher so I spread my bet and have to say, get mor...

Mainly it depends on the quality of the link. Also, a lot of sites, especially directories, don't create a direct link to your site, they do it through a page on their own site, which does a redirect.

Post a couple of samples and I'll take a look for you.

Yeh, sorry, I saw that afterwards - doh!

Another good one is to type link: into the search query box:

http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=i ... arch&meta=

This (and the site:) also work in Yahoo.

Glad it helps.

Yahoo also do one called Site Explorer but it's not as good.

That said, both Microsoft and Yahoo have updated their searches in the past couple of weeks.

It won't necessarily give you a higher ranking in SERPs but it will give you relevant information about your website and how Google sees it. For instance, where you sit in the rankings for search terms, compared to what is searched for most AND compared to the best results that people click on. It a...

If you want more detail information about your website in Google you can create a sitemap and bang it into a Google account. You will need a webmaster account (free): 1. Set up an account: www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ 2. Set up a sitemap and link it (I made a video): http://www.the-escape.co....

SEO for Firefox

Quick review on your search results with backlinks, etc. Of course you can do searches on your competitors and see who links to them too!

Potential problems with CMS systems (especially Joomla in my experience), is lack of SEO capabilities, assigning appropriate tagging and headings to pages, etc. You can't beat an ol' fashion static site for defined content on a page, although obviously you need the knowledge to do it. CMS (IMO) is g...
