Re: People who want to pay on arrival

I have just had two last minute bookings from French families, both of whom have put up a fight about paying the whole rental cost in advance of their arrival. I thought that I'd lost one of them over the discussion, in which I explained that balances are normally due eight weeks before (booking wa...

After a very quiet February, which could be down to the fact that most of summer is already booked, we've just had another flurry - the last full week between march and August has now gone, plus a little gap in May, and now two weeks in September, all in the last three days. It's our first year so ...

Re: How much deposit do you charge?

When we started holiday letting, we tried to keep things simple and chose a fixed deposit (£150 per week) regardless of the season. Advantages were that it simplified things for us when handling the admin. It also avoided the fact that many people are lousy at calculating percentages!! As we have s...

Re: Group booking for two properties

For those of you with two or more properties, I'm wondering how to handle requests/what to expect for bookings that want both properties. As they are small and seat four on the sofas and four for dining, I'm concerned about groups of 7/8 people renting both and then congregating in one. So far it h...

Re: An unwelcome hidden extra

A member has just kindly told us that we had unwittingly imported a link to casino insider .ca to our home page. We had taken some 'free' buttons, not realising they came with that little extra. Usually we check the code but, in this case, phones ringing like made caused us to take our eye off the ...

More important than .com/.co.uk is where your site is hosted. To give an idea of how significant that is, we originally hosted in the US ('cos it was cheap) but moved to the UK. Within 6 days, we had a 30 fold increase in the hits (our guests are mostly from the UK). This happens as google give hig...

Re: .com or .co.uk

Hi all, new member to your website, must say really impressed by the info available on here. My question is .com or .co.uk? We have an apartment in Turkey that we are planning on setting a website up, any advice on which one to use. I imagine that most people looking will be UK based, but also want...

We also quote a weekend price and, like othes, simply says that they have full use of the house for all of Sunday that way they can leave as late as they like on Sunday or miss the Sunday night traffic and have a leisurely drive back on Monday morning. Our bookings are doing well this year - better...

Yes.. I have had more conversions from my own website this year then from rental sites. That is also a new one for me, especially as I haven't bothered with it very much, so perhaps I will also pay it more attention and spend more on that instead ? I do think this is the way forward in addition to ...

Re: Wordpress or Joomla, which is the better for a rental si

Hello, Having done HTML websites for many years, I am now experimenting with both Wordpress and Joomla as a platform for the next generation website, and to create something more interactive for our 10-unit retreat in the Pyrenees. Wordpress is bloggging software, which can also be used to make web...
