I believe that Homelidays have an option to list for just 3 or 6 months, so that might be worth exploring if you don't want to rent outside of summer. (Also, I have had good experience with them finding renters for my apartment in Nice.) Also, there are promo codes / special offers for several listi...

Val,

I suspect a lot of owners feel the same .... if you can get renters to subsidise your retirement home, plus get some personal usage along the way, that's not bad!

I suspect many (most?) of the 57% of respondents who own only 1 holiday rental are those who have a second home and also rent it out to subsidise the costs. It would not surprise me if, when all costs are taken into account, most do not make money. Of the remaining 43% that own more than one holiday...

The COHR and non-COHR groups are about the same size. I would be careful about interpreting the differences, but it would seem to indicate that the COHR subscribers get better results, probably because they are more active owners. (I guess the very fact of signing up for our newsletters is probably ...

2012 Rentals Owners Survey

We recently conducted a quick survey of holiday rentals owners to ask about business in 2012 vs 2011 (thanks to those you who participated). Overall results indicate that 2012 was slightly better than 2011. You can find the results here: http://www.all-holiday-rentals.com/holiday_rentals_owner_surve...

Definitely not how you want to start your holiday! There was an article recently in ABC News about similar scams in New York. You can read more here : http://vacation-rental-forum.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/avoiding-online-vacation-rental-scams.html Also, Homeaway indicated that they are seeing an incre...

I think the point is that, when using a mobile, users are more likely to use an App rather than browsing/ searching. Hence, those listing sites that have an App will have an advantage. However, renters are unlikely to want to download Apps from multiple listing websites. This may give the bigger sit...

Listing Sites with Mobile App

I'm doing some research into the use of mobile apps by Rental Listing Sites. Although only in its infancy, many people feel that the use of Apps (rather than internet search), will become the dominant way for renters to find properties over the next few years. I would in interested if anyone how any...

Now that Tripadvisor is getting into the holiday rentals market in a big way, with the acquisition of Flipkey and Holidaylettings, will that impact on the perceived impartiality of their reviews?

I tend to think that there will always be room for niche sites .. however, I would not be surprised to see Google hook up with some of the big players ( e.g. Homeaway) in some way.
