There has been a marked pick-up in enquiries over the last 10 days from OD and HG but not HL. I suspect the dreadful rain in the UK might have started people thinking again.

I have always had a worry about sound on web sites. I read a study about our industry and it seems that most of our potential customers browse while at work or at least in their lunch time at work. Seemingly if they land on a web site that blurts out sound they very quickly cancel the visit. I would...

I was watching a period drama on the TV last week, the house featured had the same issue. Lavender is the answer. Seems scorpions hate it. You need sprigs of it on window ledges, near doorways and vents. Will make the place smell nice too.

I have a friend not too distant from my gite complex who took a deposit on a two week booking last July on his gite and allowed the clients to pay on arrival. They didn't turn up. He was concerned that they had had an accident on route or had got lost. When he eventually made contact after a couple ...

25% by end of January or on booking if after end of January. Balance 8 weeks prior to arrival. Never ever allow people to pay balance on arrival. Can relate story about how that can work.

This is our 7th season. February is always a bad month for enquiries though this year is even worse. I agree with others, some listing sites have become too big. My adverts are amongst 100's if not thousands of others so making them difficult to find. The smaller sites where the advert is one of a h...

I agree. Here we are in the very south of the Charente Maritime and it has warmed up today for the first time in two weeks. Its 11 am and its minus 8 and it might get to minus 5. Have never found winter lets economic. The price has to be low to get the booking but the overheads [fuel, electric, wood...

Don't be tempted on the scrolling image on your home page. It loads very quickly which is what you want. Visitors are then happy to rummage around the site to get the info they need. If the home page takes an age to load or has a "flash" type intro, its a real turn off. The other turn off ...

AE works for us. Been in it since January 2009. Simple system, you know exactly what its going to cost each quarter. They send you nice forms at the end of the year that correspond with your tax return forms making them easy too. No book keeping other than your own records and more importantly no ac...

At the moment you could ice skate on ours but when we do switch it all on I set the heater for 26 degrees which seems to be a temperature commercials pool run at.

An interesting chart. I never moan about budget airlines, for all their strange marketing ploys its still a very cheap way to travel. They do all need to grow up now though. People are no longer fooled by the headline price. Charging an admin fee of £6 per person per flight for using a credit or deb...

I have never found any that will take an advert for a month. I think OD will take a six month advert. Of the three I advertise with one costs a quarter of the other two and gives about the same return so is a good investment.

Its an interesting notion to have a room with two double beds. As for advertising it, I doubt if you will achieve a greater rental value for 12 people over 10. With 10 there is of course less work to do on change over day.
