Have you considered a house swap?
We have done them many times over the years and I know some people look for longer terms.

As others have said, I am certain that this person is trying it on and after a freebie. The issues were minor and could have easily been rectified, if they existed. And who on earth provides pasta and fudge for dinner, and so what if they do? Utterly ridiculous. Just ignore any further communication...

I have been in a similar situation to you in that I rented out my UK house whilst I lived in Germany for 6 years. In that time I had two sets of tenants.....one awful and the second better although they left me a mess to clear up but nothing that a portion of their security deposit couldn't take car...

Thank you for your replies. It is important to me to get everything (the work and rate of pay) agreed upfront - hence this post - so I avoid falling out. We have worked together before without a problem. I would prefer to pay him per job to avoid any jobs stretching but an hourly rate may be the way...

Labour costs for renovating
I am about to stop letting out my UK house, renovate it and either move back into it or sell it - I'm not clear about that part. I'm planning on painting/decorating it, installing new floors, possibly a kitchen and other smaller jobs. I have a friend who is handy, short of cash, with plenty of time ...

I had a similar group a few years back and they also admitted to struggling to find somewhere to stay. I took a bigger deposit but it wasn't necessary in my case as they were a good bunch. These days I would ask to connect with them on Facebook to get an idea of their habits, get a huge deposit (whi...

+1 with African Penguin. Something doesn't quite add up and I would treat this as your guest cancelling for the reasons others have mentioned. However, whatever happens with the cancellation, I would not want to risk having someone with a severe nut allergy stay with me. Life must be very difficult ...

That shows initiative, but even better would be if more people knew about the StaySavr app. I am an owner and only just heard about it (on this forum of course.) Sadly it's the potential clients that need to know about it, and use it. I was just taking a look at this and thought of adding it as an ...

I sympathise with you in this situation Steve and I know how easy it is to take it personally and become stressed. However, from what you have said I am certain you have a chancer on your hands who's playing you to see what she can get. The half-a-sausage incident and that she's demanding you respon...

Berlin for Christmas and/or New Year
Our central Berlin apartment is available for exchange for around 5 weeks from mid-December to late January if anyone fancies a trip to Berlin. We are looking for a non-simultaneous exchange somewhere within Europe but are flexible about location. There's a link to the exchange advert here https://w...

Well after raeding this thread I have just booked somewhere using Spain Holiday. It wasn't a website I was familiar with but it did throw up some different places at decent prices without the dreaded commission and having to route communication through a ruddy dashboard. Before seeing the site I was...
