This must be a trend, we also got our first TWO independant inquiries from people seeking us out and finding our (badly maintained - must try harder) Facebook page.

Well the price rise went well and we generated some more bookings one of which actually commented on what good value the cottage is. Drat, should've raised the price more. I reread this thread and thought i would mention an issue that I have experienced with HL/TA bookings. If I do not maintain pric...

Hi we have a cottage just outside Bowness. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, 2 double and 1 bunk. Bowness with all the hustle and bustle is 5 minutes by car. Plentiful walks on our doorstep. Own website in progress, currently available via Tripadvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/VacationRentalReview-g1...

Prices raised - lets see what happens. On a positive note we have 3 bookings in Jan when we usually have one at most.

We also have Hive and I have no issues with turning it down when I see misused. Doesnt happen very often thank goodness. No one has ever challenged me for doing so. If misuse continues I just call them to ask if they are having issues with the heating and need my help. I do think the manual theromst...

We have Ikea Ektorp in the conservatory with throws to avoid sun damage and it has worn well. Thats if I dont think about the time I accidentally bleached one of the cushions. However for the living room we bought high quality but "preloved" leather sofas. We still get that country look wi...

My experience is losing the odd fork or spoon but for each item of other cutlery that is lost I lose 4-6 teaspoons so buy extra. We also have to replace mugs from time to time. However in 3 years no one has smashed a single plate (from the Tesco value range and ultra cheap) but we have lost more gla...

We do not suffer much from pilfering but when done must be deliberate - an iron, an ethernet cable and most bizarrely a dustbin? Not have I yet been confident enough to level an accusation, I just suck it up and buy another. We do not clean ourselves but have a cleaner who goes in and I can never be...

We are the same - I have no idea why we do not get repeat bookings or advance bookings when our reviews are fabulous. We have only one booking for 2017 at this point - though never seem to have any problems filling up at short notice/school holidays and always end up (have been operating for >3 year...

We have been with HL since end of March 2015 and have filled up almost all our summer weeks with bookings through their site so my experience seems to be different from that of others who have commented. We have no bookings from the end of the school summer holidays though at all and I can see other...

This has made me think more about the fact that we are just starting to take bookings via HL having gone through an agency up until now. It hadn't occurred to me that I know nothing about these people and have no address or contact details that I can rely on should anything go wrong. Though of cours...

Darn £99! Just placed an order at £159. That is £40 off the normal £199 price (for limited time only so they say) if you already use British Gas. Just had the boiler serviced in any case and suspect BG would have charged considerably more for that than I paid so swings and roundabouts.

I just bought a job lot from Tesco of their standard porcelain (sp?) mugs. Pretty sure they worked out around £2 each and I just trot a new one out of the garage every time I see a chip or one goes missing. My dishwasher must do a fabulous job as I never notice any staining (my dishawasher at home b...

Thank you everyone for your advice - BG Hive I think it may well be. Got to be worth £200 or so. We do have broadband and I think this is as much functionality as I need. Hoping not to become too obsessed ;-)

Remote Home Monitoring

I have seen some posts on this but still struggling with the whole concept. I would like to monitor (yes and control....maybe...sometimes) the heating in our property remotely. I have had comments over winter that the house has been cold for guests on arrival and its difficult for us to get there an...
