Always interesting to me at least where dirt and leaves end up, as you say most go to the same spot(s). That's how I became interested in improving things flow wise. Conquered the pump low energy issue and then using computerised fluid dynamic software set about working out the best way to remove th...

Why run the pump at all in winter? I am in France and pool is closed in September and not run again until May,June. I have a winter cover that excludes the light, not a stupid mesh type. If you keep your pool open then you need to run the pump to keep leaves going into the skimmer but a cover is bet...

cool . I will join up. Buy a decent test kit is key, test strips are pretty useless especially if the packet has been open for a few months. Trouble free pool is ok for leaning the basics but they are cult like and follow like sheep and just like any forum people post their opion on things they hav...

Your water must be nutrient rich in algae terms. Worth checking phosphate levels and whether the filtration is good enough, maybe add some seaKlear or jolly gel. I think that might be our problem too Teapot, levels of chlorine, CYA, pH etc all good but we're still getting patches of algae on a week...

Besides the CYA levels causing issues, often it's phosphates, these can be from all sorts of sources, people, hair products, washing detergent on costumes, birds etc. Keeping this level low removes the food for algae. The finer the filtration, the more you remove from the water so less treatment req...

SPJ, mine hasn't been looked at for 10 months due to circumstances. No chlorine, no pump and cover on until 17th of June. clear water, just needed a vacuum and connection of pump and dosing unit. Your water must be nutrient rich in algae terms. Worth checking phosphate levels and whether the filtrat...

Re: How much to reduce our rent for each day our pool's gree

OH took his eye off the ball and we now have a bright green pool and our first guests of the year arriving Saturday. They are driving down and I know one of the first things they are going to want to do is swim. Going back to the original issue, what made it turn so quickly? Phosphate rich water, p...

I did search but the term just gave literature and phrases, at no point did it link to a product. This is also a term I have not seen before despite many years in the pool industry. It adds hardness to the water courtesy of the calcium so if you have hard water caution is advised. The product is cal...

Unless it's a copper based algaecide it won't touch an algae bloom. Unfortunately copper can stain so needs to be used with care. The non copper ones are junk. The chlorine you have tries it's hardest to oxidise the algaecide out of the water so using up the chlorine quicker. Better to just use more...

Pleased that it will be sorted Kathy, a real worry if the pool doesn't look good. Teapot or anyone else what would you recommend as an all round home testing kit? I have a salt pool and add cya but have no way of testing for it. Have you a salt tester? The best kit for the money is, I believe the L...

Update..... TA is actually 100 All seems pretty good, I take it the pH is without any chlorine present? If so that will naturally rise with chlorine. My foremost question is, what caused the green swamp issue? I say that as my pool has been untouched for almost 16 months with the winter cover on an...

Hi Kathy, just read your post and Richard is correct more chlorine. If you want things to change quicker add more still, you won't hurt a liner even at these levels. I see you are remedying the situation so all's well after no doubt a bit of frantic hard labour. I wouldn't bother with a pH pump, if ...

Sadly you have already learnt bad habits and some.
People don't like to be told so I am saying nothing else unless requested.

That other thread is also poor on fact but high on bad practice.
