New Guest Logging Requirements
Anyone got any information on the new requirements for recording guest data? I have been advised that the rules came into effect at the beginning of the year but will not be actively applied until some time in June. I am struggling to understand because we already have to obtain ID for all guests an...

Booking.com Scam Enquiries?
This has happened to a friend with a holiday rental in my village, although I have not been similarly targeted. We both have small village houses and typically bookings are for 2-7 nights. He had received odd bookings for lengthy stays and is deeply suspicious. This is what he has written: "Jus...

Re: VRBO VAT Nightmare
I guess I'll just hike my prices. Not great for VRBO/Expedia users though!

Re: VRBO VAT Nightmare
I have an accountant in Spain, and he would advise me of my responsibilities, but no other site deducts VAT/IVA. All I had to do was declare that I was a private individual and basically take responsibility for my own personal liabilities. Seems fair enough to me. The net sum VRBO is paying me barel...

Re: VRBO VAT Nightmare
I think the problem is that VRBO think you are a UK owner of an EU property overseas. If you were, then you would be required to register for VAT in that country. See http://www.marcusward.co/vat-overseas-holiday-lets-a-warning-2/ I still don't get it. Notwithstanding the fact that I registered wit...

VRBO VAT Nightmare
I was really chuffed to get my first booking via VRBO/Expedia overnight, but when I went into the details I was more than surprised to see my net revenue to be markedly lower than that I would expect for the same booking via my other sites. Once I'd drilled into it I saw that UK VAT had been deducte...

Re: Guest with Covid
Regardless of any official protocol I guess it is up to the agency to set their own criteria in this respect so if the outgoing guests advised of their status and the incoming guests are booked via the same channel then there's nothing you can do.

Re: Where Are Your Guests Coming From?
Last year a mix of Dutch, French & Spanish. This year 100% Brits. Really? I've only had one British couple this year. The rest have been EU. I was thinking more about tapping into the market further afield as people shake off the pandemic cobwebs and spread their travel wings. I had tho...

Re: Can I Do More?
If you create a Google Maps listing it should bump you to the top of google searches. I don't actually know how to do that  Also I wonder if Google Maps is based on Streetview? My little house is down a pedestrian-only narrow village street and in my listings often they end up placing my loca...

Can I Do More?
I suspect I am just being impatient and stamping my tiny size 35s a bit too much, but I am disappointed with my bookings this year. After all the time, effort, blood, sweat and tears getting my Spanish village house ready I had supposed I might expect a bit more traffic. I list on Booking.com, Airbn...

Re: VRBO Non English Sites
I think you may be benefiting from the carry over of your previous listing info Felicity. For me all that was stated on the non-UK VRBO site was that hideous statement about loo rolls and non-existent on site parking.

Re: VRBO Non English Sites
Thank you for letting us know about this Casscat. We used to be able to easily access the listing on all the other sites to check how they looked (and they used to be OKish for translation) but now I can't find out how to do this as I am keen to check my listing translations too. Where do you locat...

Re: Where Are Your Guests Coming From?
Nothing wrong with money from Spanish guests. I didn't say there was an issue with Spanish guests. I have been very grateful for them and hope they continue to visit in the future. Even if the market gets away from Covid it is looking like cost of living increase and terrible experiences at airport...

Re: VRBO Non English Sites
Just to update, the only way I have been able to get around this issue is to go into Property > Description > Add Manual Translation. For Spanish I basically wrote my English narrative into Spanish and I have checked that this has appeared as I wrote it with the focus on the provision of toilet pape...

Where Are Your Guests Coming From?
It's been a very strange few years with all the covid related travel impediments, but which markets are you finding most buoyant now that we are edging our way out of the pandemic? As a newby (after an absence of several years) I found most of my guests last year were Spanish staycationers, but this...
