I doubt it. Most of our trade is now through Airbnb, so I think I will give up on AA/Visit England.

Visit England Accessibility guides
We pay over £300 pa to be members of the Visit England scheme, since the AA took over from QIT the service has been reduced and the price has gone up. They now want £300 pa for their new accessibility web site, which has been free in the past. Since most of our bookings now come via Airbnb or direct...

Registration of Holiday Lets
The Times today reports that the governement is considering legislation to make owners of holiday lets (or those who let for more than 90 nights) to apply for permission to be an holiday let. We have had two lets since about 2010, are registereted for business rates and pay extra to hav our rubbish ...

Re: Insurance for UK Holiday Cottage/Annexe
We paid about £1,600 last year with NFU to insure our 4 bedroom house and our two 2 bedroom holiday lets. I don't think that's unreasonable. They were very good when we had to make a claim after flooding in 2007.

Re: Big slowdown in bookings
In the past few years our bookings have mostly come from Airbnb, typically 2 or 3 nights, but last year we had our best occupancy rate ever. More work but worth it.

Be prepared for your agent to argue their case (code for refuse). Their fear will be that you contact guests direct to get them to book through you rather than the agent. Perhaps think about your response. Most people that use agents go to different places every year and don't want to deal with own...

Thank you for responding, this gives me hope. Are the properties on a single title? They each have a separate name but share the rest of our address. If you are referring to the land registry off-hand I don't know. The building was divided into three in 1950, long before we bought it. Because it is...

Re: Emergency rechargeable torch lights
We have Quantek torch lights in our cottages. One has stopped working and they don't seem to make them anymore. Can anyone recommend a substitute? We used SafeTlights in the past which were useless - guests constantly broke the fins in the charging plug. What we're looking for is a torch that sits ...

Re: Buildings Insurance for Thatched property in EU?
[quote="visitslovenija"]Hi all, May I ask if anyone has a thatched property in Euroland and, if so, who do you use for buildings insurance? We have a thatched cottage in Ireland and have found it very difficult to get cover. There is just one company in the ROI who will entertain it and th...
