Domain names

Post by Happy Days »

Finally I have decided on a domain name for our Chambre D'Hote.
The website is with promotemyplace.
The cheapest I can find is GoDaddy.fr if I buy from .uk it would be easier.
Because resident in France do I need to purchase from .fr site.
Any advice would be helpful

I would go for good 'ol' .com if i had the option again, our English site is .co.uk & the french version is .fr which is expensive and i havent seen any advantages in having it.

yep, .com is much more universal, we have lived here +10 years and still cant buy the .fr of our .com address !

for us , we had some advice many years ago from another hatter, its best to be able to spell your domain name in french, dont be too complicated,

best wishes

.fr only gives French people confidence (not particularly useful for other nationalities) and even then I'm not sure that confidence is much improved over only having a .com but when your property is in France, French people are worth marketing to.

It used to be (and I don't suppose it has changed) that you can only buy .fr domain names from a French registrar and you have to supply proof of residence - like an EDF bill or similar. I believe that you can only buy a year at a time, even so it's about 3+ years since I looked into it.

I wouldn't bother with .co.uk for a French property.

Hi guys,
Would you recommend Namecheap.com for Domain name and e-mail? Prices seem good. Going for a Dot.com think it would be easier. Do I need a SSL also???

Thanks in advance

I would recommend a simple version of what your accommodation is called. Namecheap (is it the name of the French village you are located in? :D ) really not sure about that what are you trying to say? Cant see the advantage in ssl, most of your visits will come from sites you advertise on.

No I wouldn't. "cheap" (in all senses) is not a word you want to associate with your rental.

Sorry everyone,

Namecheap.com is a place I can buy my Domain Name,
I was asking had anyone purchased a Domain name from this company, or where you would recommend to buy domain name from?,

Definitely not a name I would choose for B&B

Sorry for confusing everyone.

There's 'Domainmonster' which is now apparently part of '123-Reg.co.uk', which has always served me very well in the past.

There's no accounting for the names of these sites
