To buy or not to buy...

If you are planning to buy a rental home, or you're thinking about what to do with one you have just acquired, this is the place for any questions about starting out in the rentals business.

What kind of self-catering place would you choose in a quiet (but beautiful) part of Scotland?

I tend to agree with those who worry it might be hard to fill outside of peak season.

Although we are in a completely different part of the world, I think the limitations of large properties for rental are the same pretty well everywhere. With a potential 10 person big house we find that its main strength (lots of room for 3 generations) becomes its main weakness outside of summer and other school holidays. In order to stretch the season we got rid of a bedroom and made a second kitchen so we now have potentially two x 2 bedroom apartments, each with full size living and kitchen accommodation to let independently out of season. HOWEVER so far we have never had both let at the same time so we could have saved our money and just advertised downstairs as if it was the only one available!
For true domestic harmony it is essential that dogs know their place, which is below all cats
