Hi
something very simple I came across today.
People surf, and add interesting sites into favourites / bookmarks.
Most don't structure their favourites into sub directories, so end up with an enormous list.
If you were to become more visible on this list, it could give you an edge ? Perhaps with an icon, like the big boys use ?
So, I discovered how to add an icon to my favourites listing today. And it only takes 5 minutes !
1) Add an option for "add to favourites" on your site. This is easy. Link an image or text to the html :
<a href="javascript:window.external.AddFavorite ('http://www.myurl.com','') "><img alt="your own text" src="your image" border="0" width="10" height="10">Bookmark this page</a>
2)Add the icon for the favourites : Create the icon in word, or a graphics programme. Copy it to a graphics programme and save to your website subdirectory under the name favicon.ico . Upload it to your server.
And that is it. IE, by default searches for it and includes it in the visitors favourites list.
Size should be around 22 X 22 pixels
Bonne chance

An increasing amount of people are using del.icio.us for their bookmarking. You can categorise your bookmarks by 'tagging' them (very Web 2.0), access them from anywhere, share them with mates, subscribe to keywords and see what other people are tagging in your area of interest etc etc. One of the best things that has happend to the internet in recent years and I'm personally using it more than Google to find stuff I'm interested in.
The icons you're talking about are called favicons, you can create one and put it in your root directory and make a call to it in the head of your html document.
They are easily created using this site (and probably many others):
http://www.html-kit.com/favicon/
