Where do you start trying to sell a gite business

Post by julesb »

Hi Everyone

A friend rang me today to say that she and her family have to return back to UK due to family reasons. They currently live in a little village on the Tarn/Aveyron border where they have a gite business - very lovely, established, 2 gites, plus family home plus barn to convert + stables. They need to sell and just do not have a clue where to start - they don't even have any remote idea of what sort of price bracket their property would fall into. Anyone got any good ideas of how or where to start marketing their property. (They do not have much french so are not too happy to call in local agents).
I came to France to stop the panic, now I still panic but at a much slower pace.

Here is a site that sells gite complexes (there are rather a lot of them, maybe Fraise was right about the saturation in another thread??)

If we buy existing gite businesses, we won't be adding to the saturarion - at least that's the way I'm approaching the problem!

I have every intention of making my gites utterly wonderful.

Jacwood Estates have a good selection of gites (www.gitecomplexes.co.uk) as well as other properties.

I've enquired about a gite complex from Jacwood. Got an initial response saying they couldn't get in touch with the agent and then nothing. Maybe if they are listening they should consider giving more attention to dealing with their clients and keeping sure their website up to date.

Margarete of Jacwood Estates has arranged my viewing trip over the next week or so, so I'll let you know how I get on.

But also to let you know, very sadly her husband died suddenly before Christmas. She is carrying on with the gite website part of the business.

Update: I agree that Jacwood is less than active in encouraging buyers. Nuff sed.
