disabled gite
We decided to plan for disabled access when designing the reno of our old place as we are centre ville, right next to bar restaurant and with flat access to the back of our house where our suites are........also we came across wheelchair bound tourists having a really hard time finding somewhere to stay that was not out in the middle of nowhere.
We are almost finished now and were lucky enough the other day to be sitting at the bar next door when a gent in a wheelchair and his wife turned up, we got talking and he was more than happy to come and have a look at what we had done and give us some feedback.
Of course the gravel we have on a portion of our backyard has to go but that was only temp while the work was being done to keep the area cleaner but he loved the room and although the bathroom is not huge by any means, he had plenty of room and his chair moved nicely under the handbasin. His wife loved it because it was not just functional but styly.
It was great to get his feedback and they are going to come back and stay when it is finished, in a consultant capacity of course, He also told us that wheelchair access accommodation is very rare in France, but we already knew we had done the right thing
