Don't worry about the high chlorine level, the sunshine will reduce it over the next couple of days. Continue with the pH treatments until you reach the required level, it can take a surprising amount. Add at the rate of 0.7 kg of the sodium carbonate per 15,000 gallons per day until the pH is corrected.

One further suggestion. To ensure that your pool water is properly balanced you should also have it tested for Total Alkalinity and Calcuim Hardness, your local pool specialist will do this for you.

Hi Angie,

I'm only an owner who runs a pool. I simply responded in an attempt to help Kayley in her moment of need. I do hope your husband didn't disagree too much with what I said - it works for me.

By the way Kaylee, how is your pool now?

Hi Alan,
It's a lot better thanks, but I still haven't got it quite right.
The chlorine seems to be OK but the PH is still reading low despite several doses.I thought yesterday, that it looked very slightly cloudy, but I'm not sure. More PH plus went in yesterday and I'm under strict instructions from my husband to leave it alone, at least till tomorrow and see what it's like by then! My sons went in yesterday and came out alive, which is good I suppose.

Kayley,

That's good news.

If there is any evidence of cloudiness it would be a good idea to leave the pool running for a couple of days without any more pH treatment. It sometimes takes a while for the pH to be fully dissolved in the pool water and that can lead to a little cloudiness.
