Forum spammers

Post by paolo »

You will have noticed we are getting a few spammers posting here every day, and some of you have said how annoying this is.

One solution is to put another level of security in, and require new members to be approved before being able to post. I would rather not do that because it will put some people off joining us.

I think I will give some members moderator privileges so it is not just me deleting these posts, and they will be cleaned up more quickly. I will also see if we can ban all .ru email addresses, which is where they all come from.

Hopefully this is a passing wave. If not, I will think again.

Paolo, the other forum I post on requires approval to post, I think it's an automated email link? It doesn't stop the Russians though, although there doesn't seem to be so much. I mod there, but can only delete the thread not the member.
