End of an eventful year!

Post by ClareyD »

For those of you who have helped us through our first year trading with what turned out to be disastrous local agency I thought you might like to hear what I hope is the last of the saga!

You might recall the issues of broken website, wrong photos, poor communication, bins left un-emptied for three weeks, charges for laundered linen which had in fact been left screwed up and dirty in our own store... the list was calamitous and seemingly endless.
Anyway, one of the reasons we chose said agent was because they also had access to longer term lets during the winter months through their estate agency arm - seemed like a great idea to take a reduced rate for a month's booking at a time when a weekly rental looked unlikely. And, to be fair, it did seem to work.

However! Given the issues we'd had, we were a little paranoid about our long-term guest. But we were reassured that he was a single retired gentleman simply looking to move to the area and wanting to rent while he found somewhere. What could be better?! Except that, according to our wonderful and long-suffering neighbour, in fact staying in our beloved bungalow were a couple beneath retirement age who appeared to be dividing their time between our property and Spain, with the woman being the one there most of the time. Well, not the end of the world, except that one night apparently two police squad cars screeched to a halt outside and raided the bloke's van! It appears that there is a distinct possibility we have been playing landlord to some sort of drugs mule...

Luckily they seem to have left it in good order so no harm done. But a thorough search was made of the premises just in case something had been left behind that shouldn't have been!!

We start afresh from the 1st March with a brand new national (but still quite local to us) agency, higher hopes, lessons learnt and a wry smile!

Thanks, Nemo! Fortunately no lasting damage has been done and we're able to laugh about it. And it has taught us a lot of valuable lessons.

Very grateful to you and others on here who have helped us keep sane and realise it's not always like this!

Well, ClareyD, you know that after such an "annus horibilis", it can only get better!
Talk about being thrown into the deep end  but you managed not to drown and hopefully next year will go swimmingly for you.
