I have just caught on to the fact that the Tourism Board Authority of the country my rental is located requires for the owner to check guests' details against their ID/passport.

I would need to ask for a scan of sorts since I am not on site.

1. Does anyone ask for documents? How do you go about it?
2. Is there anything I should keep in mind re-GDPR compliance?

We have to register guests here in Spain. However, scans or even presenting of ID information is illegal. Thus registration should be done at the time of entry. I am willing to bet that there are a fair number who are not sticking to the law!
