Jenny, you are correct in that the livebox is a modem router, but not a very good one, not even just a good one! Many people have had no problems with them, but loads have. I have many friends who have had them replaced with a Netgear modem router, and as a "Techie" I am part of many IT forums where people have ongoing problems with them.
If yours is working fine then keep it as it is. If it gives up the ghost then buy a Netgear 834 for around 70 euro.

Hi Bob, that's good to know - I have heard lots of bad comments about the Livebox and as I said, I am not a great fan of FT. That was why I initially wanted to get Netgear, for example, but was swayed towards the Livebox (not by FT) for ease of installation. Have to admit I was able to set it up easily, and it is still working, fingers crossed...will probably conk out when first guests arrive, in which case I'll be calling in techie first-aid, pronto!
