Buildings Insurance for Thatched property in EU?
Hi all,
May I ask if anyone has a thatched property in Euroland and, if so, who do you use for buildings insurance?
We have a thatched cottage in Ireland and have found it very difficult to get cover. There is just one company in the ROI who will entertain it and their premiums are stratospheric.
So I am trying to find new companies who operate in this market. I'm assuming the blessed Brexit means UK companies can not offer cover in the EU, but might be wrong..... But other EU countries are worth checking.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ralph

No recommendations, just some Google results possibly from a little closer - it's hard to tell where you are!

Hi Richard,
Thanks for the suggestions.
From the list;
No. 1 : No longer offers policies in the ROI
No. 2 : This is the one company here that does offer - at very high rates
No.3 : Tried them, not interested
No. 4: Yes, have read that.....
No. 5: Don't think I've tried them yet, so will give it a go.
I do feel though that I need a company outise the ROI who is prepared to offer, as it sure looks like the market has been stiched up to allow OBF to rule the roost.
Sigh

When we had a thatched cottage many years ago the CGA were the best. I don't know if they cover Ireland but you can find out more from:

Insurances do not "export" Laws in one country are not compatible with the insurance contract in another.
There is a half hearted attempt at revising this situation.
Read these two links. https://ec.europa.eu/info/business-econ ... t-rules_en
The issue with the EU website is that there is no date on the information. So trying to find out more on "Europe 2020" I discovered this.

The study failed at the tender stage and went no further.
