Driving in Switzerland

Post by Rocket Rab »

Watch out if you are planning to drive in Switzerland next year (2007), when new means-tested fines come into force for road traffic offences. Those of you with deep pockets could faces penalties of up to 180,000 Swiss francs (!) in the worst instances of drunk driving.

One newspaper quotes an example of a millionaire caught 25 km/h over the limit in a town who would pay a fine of 30,000 Swiss francs.

Refusal to pay would lead to stiff prison sentences (equivalent to one day per 100 Swiss francs..) says the same newspaper.

You have been warned! The Swiss know where it hurts most - in the wallet! :D

Ah yes, Ros, but whilst it is well-known that (Swiss) mountain goats do not have deep pockets, they have been spotted roaming the Alps dragging huge suitcases behind them......!
