Taking photographs

The place to discuss anything to do with computers, software, hardware, no matter how basic or technical. We all use this stuff, but we don't always understand it!

2. Photosynth.
This is just mind blowing new stuff on the horizon that will eventually make all our digital pictures on our websites look like faded sepia prints. But it uses digital photo technology, so don't throw out your camera !
Awesome - I'm not brave enough to download a trial but I have sent this link to my daughter who will be very interested - thanks again.

I've just watched this again with Kevin and we are both open mouthed. Incredible possibilities with this technology.

Thanks for these links. I've had a play around in Picnik, which has some useful features not in Picasa. I was rather hoping it would have a noise reduction feature, but obviously not. Free software I've tried for that is The Gimp and Neat Image, but they take up a lot of memory space and are quite difficult to use (I find, anyway).

Also in Picnik, having edited an image, I can't see how to export it to my website (or to anywhere else, so that the browse facility can pick it up). Am I missing something?

Photoplus is a free download which has some of the photoshop capability such as clone to remove items. You can download it here

I tried that, Richard, but it only offered me the option of exporting to Picasa. I did try that since it might only have meant one extrastep, but having done that I couldn't find it in the file I had saved it to, nor anywhere else for that matter!

I'll play around a bit more and see if it works another time - it might be just a glitch.

Just bought a second hand Kodak P880 specifically to take shoots of inside/outside of the villa due to its great wide angle lens, but if I have to reduce the size of the pics to put them on the rental websites am I best shooting at a reduced pixel size then, the max it does is 8.o mega pix.

Hi Mario

Good choice, with a zoom lens opening to 24mm made by Schneider, one of the world's greatest lens manufacturers - you can hardly go wrong. Even if you've only got web use in mind, I'd be tempted to shoot full-sized files, save the original and downsize copies for your website. Thay way, if you think of further uses for the pictures in future, you could need bigger files and you'll have them available without having to re-shoot.

As this camera has RAW mode, the best results will come from converting and tweaking these files - but there is a bit of a learning curve.

Do hope you don't mind -this is an experiment. If it works, it's the view from the rear of our terrace. I love it because generally, when people think of the Costas, they think beaches, Marinas and apartment blocks, and don't realise that actually there's a rich hinterland within stumbling distance.

If it doesn't work - oh well. Try again. It may link back to Flickr.

Is this what you wanted?

It works if you use Img but not if you use URL.
