Any experience of Alpine fox behaviour?

Post by Mountain Goat »

Urgent e-mail from current resident punters:

'.....on a more bizarre note, one of D*****'s and one of L****'s shoes has gone missing from outside our door! As we were going out this morning we noticed they were missing and after initially blaming the kids realised that it couldn't be them.

Our theories are a) wildlife theft b) Swiss National Day prank or c) it really was J*****(age 4) and he is developing an excellent poker face!

Any thoughts? Can foxes steal shoes and if so, why not take the pair?!?"

Any help/advice appreciated. We have at least 3 regular foxes who turn up each evening.

Leave out an old pair of shoes (that you don't want anymore) overnight and see whether a fox takes one?

More fox news - one of my brand new Timberland shoes (one of a pair lost in the snow last winter, but that's another story) was deposited outside the front door last night by our fox. Eaten down the middle, brass studs and all, and might need a bit of loving care. The leather laces had been carefully removed.

Was it feeling guilty? Doing us a favour? We shall never know, nor find out where the other shoe went.
