Booking for "Clients"

Post scam emails to warn other rental owners, or if you are not sure if an enquiry is genuine, put it up here and see what others think.

Booking for "Clients"

Post by cc »

Has anyone ever had taken a booking for a holiday for "clients" that has turned out to be legitimate?
I have had several emails of this nature and only one of them was real. Do travel agents really book our sort of accommodation by trawling the internet rather than using their usual hotels etc?
The real one was from a travel agency about 2 miles from me looking to house 10 Bulgarian boxers for a week. The owner of the agency is Bulgarian and was looking to diversify into boxing promotion! Sadly we were fully booked at the time. I can guess the response on LMH if I had posted the initial email on here and asked "Is this a scam?"

Yes, I've had a couple of them recently. I haven't bothered answering because the ones I have had have been so vague and I thought they MUST be scams. Vague about what they are booking, no info on number of people, booking for 3 months at a time (why look at holiday apartments, surely a lettings agency is the appropriate agency... holiday apartments base their prices on weekly, not monthly lettings).

I reckon that if they sound genuine, they probably are; reckon we have all developed our Sh*t detectors enough these days to be able to tell the scams from the genuine.

well...I just got this back from the "tour operator" but I think it sreams scam...stolen credit card perhaps? I don't know...maybe I am too jaded.

"It is fine with your date availability. Before I do the reservation arrangement,
I have some questions here. This is about International reservation, that the
home will be use in November, 2007. The arrival-departure date is 3 until 17 (14
consecutive nights). If you accept major credit card for the payment, Do I get
the commission for this recommendation from you? If yes, I propose you higher
11% commission on the total amount of the stay as any b&bs/inns/hotels/ranch
normally give 10% commission to travel agents.

The group is all adults and there are no children. They are two couples (4
person), about 45-55 years old. Please recalculate the total payment with your
best price include tax, deposit & cleaning service also my 11% commission will
be. We are running an authorized and the most trustworthy travel and guide agent
Denpasar, Bali Island, ID. "
