Software upgrade on 24/25th March, no forum for an hour

Post by paolo »

Hi all,

We're upgrading to the newest version of the forum's software at 2 am GMT, Friday 25th March, which is 9 PM EST on the 24th for the USA.

The forum will be out of action for about an hour.

Paolo,

I would be intrigued to know what the upgrade involves. Does it extend as far as getting the e-mail notifications for new postings and private messages working?

Has it actually taken place? The phpBB copyright notice at the bottom of the screen still refers to 2001, 2002 whereas others using this software now refer to 2001, 2005.

Alan,

It involves my technical friend in Chile doing something I don't understand. I don't know if it has happened, as you say the date at the bottom hasn't changed. I'll find out when Santiago wakes up. We're hoping the upgrade will make all the functions work, but we don't know if it will.

Paolo,

It would be nice if all functions worked like "it does what it says on the tin" but I don't really mind. I am quite used to, and quite like, the way the forum works right now. It's the concept and the content, not the minor functions, which are important to me.

I hope the other members agree.

Regards,

Alan

The only thing I would like to see is the ability to activate email notifications for topics/forums. There are "hacks" out there you can use for the old phpBB's, thats what I did for mine and it was really nice. I know that the new ones have it under the hood so even better.
