Locking up tme at night?

Post by Norman »

How do most people deal with locking up times at night?

Do you give your guests a set time when the front door is closed e.g. 11pm?

We don't want to give our guests a front door key in case of loss etc but we don't want to be too strict to people who are on holiday.

How do other people manage this situation?

Both our Guest Rooms have private access via the pool terrace/their own front door and key therefore they are welcome to come in whatever time they please. They do not have to come through the main house.

If they did have to come through the area we were living in i.e. the main house, I would probably ask that they were in by 2 a.m. As here in Spain the night is only just getting going at midnight I do not think you could expect guests to be in before this time.

If I was restricted to a curfew, I wouldn't stay there. Why not have a lock with an entry code you can give them instead of a key?

Yes, it would certainly turn me off staying. Where have the grumpy concierges gone? Do you remember those days? Your companion having to climb up the drainpipe? Or crawl on all fours past the front desk?

We give guests a key and they have their own separate entrance. French guests, especially those attending weddings, seldom get in before 3.00 am and I've no desire to sit up for them.

In the case of our Irish guests at a French wedding yesterday it was 4 am.

We give them a key & lock the doors either side of hallway they pass through.

Norman is this a wind up

you are going back to the 60's, next you will telling us that you have a set time for breakfast.

If you dont give a key , how do you cope with the rest of the day, or do you always ensure someone is at home

My Mum had a Guest House in the 60s, but even then people had their own key

Obvious isn't it. It's the fat bloke in Cheers everyone shouted out "Norm" to when he walked in the bar.
