That sounds like the cottage we rented about 15 years ago in the South of Ireland, except when I asked about fuel for the fire I was given a spade & shown a peat bog outside.

That's terrific Margaret - bl**dy well done! I minimised the article to read later and I still haven't done so but will also post if it's appropriate - the more the merrier! :D

Disappointed as I spent 30 mins writing a reply, but for some reason was unable to do the necessary - perhaps there's a cut-off point, since the article was in the Sunday Times, and I just missed it?

YourHolidayMatters is a tiny site with a wide range but-small-and-growing number of rental properties, and I too advertise our holiday home there. It's run by responsible owners themselves, for no profit, and was created to prevent exactly the kind of disappointment Matt and his family experienced. Our guests’s holidays also matter to us!

Jane, Gascony, SW France
Its there GG Well done
Cold Comfort Farm comes to mind! This is exactly why the website Your Holiday Matters was set up (not by me, although our property is listed) - for owners who care! To be listed, you have to answer a questionnaire and provide names of past guests who are contacted for their opinions of their stay.

It sounds to me like the writer is a spoilt, urbanite pain in the bum, writing to appeal to similar types.

That's what I thought when I saw his photo. I'd like to hear the owner's view of his guests.

I thought one mention of YHM was inspired, two looks a bit too contrived.

Oh dear - you're right of course LV but even so, it did no harm I don't think, do you?
