I don't think there's a blanket answer to this really. It depends very much on the individual child. If your child regularly attends school (ie not taking time off because they're ill) and is doing well, then taking a week off is unlikely to affect their education. As long, of course, that it doesn't mean missing exams or course work deadlines. Course work should be up to date too.On the other hand, if your child has had lots of time off already or is perhaps struggling anyway, then the last thing you should do is take them out of school. One year, we had 2 kids with one half term week, and the other 2 with the following week. So we had to take 2 out of school to even go at half term. We went the cheaper of the two weeks and saved over £1000. There are probably lots of people in a similar situation, particularly if the parents are teachers as well.
